"Iron Curtain"- A border that was established so no information, ideas, or politics cannot pass over.

Baby Boom- A time with raising birth rates in a specific time.

Blacklist- a list of people or objects that are viewed with disapproval 

Cold War- Raising political tensions between nations close to war but not fully there.(ex. US. and Soviet Union) 

Containment- Keeping something that is potentially harmful within its limits

Cult of Domesticity- "True Womanhood" tells how women are the Moral Guardians of society and be loving, caring, and, compassionate to everyone.

Domino Theory- The belief if once nation falls to communism the other nations surrounding it will also.

Eisenhower Doctrine- The Eisenhower Doctrine promised economic and military aid to anti communist states.

Fallout Shelters- "bomb shelters'' a shelter to protect from an atomic bomb

G.I. Bill- A law that provided a large range of benefits for returning World War II veterans.

HUAC- House Committee on Un-American Activities ; it was an investigative committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Martin Luther King Jr.- he was an American clergyman, activist, and a prominent leader in the African American Civil Rights Movement.

Korean War- a war between the republic of Korea and the democratic Peoples Republic of Korea.

Levittowns- the name of four large suburban developments created in the U.S. by William Levitt and his company, Levitt and Sons.

Little Rock Nine- a group of African American students enrolled in Little Rock Central High School in 1957 - the group was prevented from entering the school building.

Marshall Plan- the American program to aid Europe- the U.S. gave monetary support to help re-build European economies after World War II

Massive Retaliation- a military doctrine and nuclear strategy where a state commits itself to retaliate with a greater force.

McCarthyism- the practice of making accusations of subversion, distrust or treason without any evidence.

Montgomery Bus Boycott- political and social protest against racial segregation on public buses.

NATO- North Atlantic Treaty Organization; military alliance were members agree to mutual defense in response to attack by an external party.

Rosa Parks- African American Civil Rights activist who is known by Congress as "the first lady of civil rights"

Red Scare- the fear of the spread of communism to allied countries

SEATO- South East Asia Treaty Organization; created to block further communist gains in South East Asia.

Segregation- the separation of two or more different people, races, or cultures. 

Sit-ins- direct action that involves one or more people non violently occupying an area as a protest.

Space Race- competition between Soviet Union and the United States for supremacy in space exploration.

Sputnik- 1st artificial satellite to be put into earth orbit.

Suburbs- a residential area existing as part of a city of as a separate residential community.

The Warren Court- Warren led a liberal majority that used Judicial power in a dramatic fashion.

Truman Doctrine- American policy in 1947 providing economic and military aid to Greece
