The Cold War


The Cold War is a state of political tension between the Soviet Union and USA after WWII. Though political it was very close to war. In this case it would be a Nuclear war. Both nations in the arms race, the stockpiling of nuclear weapons, The Berlin Wall being up, the launching of sputnik, and the space race.
Space Race
United states and Soviet Union were in a race to get to into outer space first. President Eisenhower sent congress a bill to create NASA in 1958. National Aeronautics and Space Administration. When the Soviets launched sputnik, it scared all Americans. The launching of Sputnik was a big time because it was the first artificial satellite to orbit earth.
Arms Race
The arms race was time of over making nuclear weapons. The amount of nuclear weapons made between the United States and Soviet Union surpass the necessary amount. After the use of the atomic bomb in Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan, the Soviet Union wanted the same type of weapon that the United States has.
Rosenberg Trial
The Rosenberg trial started in 1951 and added more tension to the cold war because Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were american citizens of immigrant parents. Julius was part of the Manhattan project, where the atomic bomb was created. Julius didn't believe we should be the only nation with this type of weaponry so they gave the research documents to the Soviet Union, which in way started the arms race, the stockpile of nuclear weapons. After the trial ended the supreme court ruled against the Rosenberg and sentenced them to an electrocution.



Sputnik
Sputnik was the first artifical satillete to orbit the earth that was launched October 4th 1957. Sputnik was a big deal because the soviets were in the lead for the space race. Sputnik was the worst momens for Americans because since the Soviets had a satellite they could press a button and could bomb the United States.
